Monstrous Meringue Mayhem

Yet again, a recipe has failed me. I believe it was due to wrong proportions or something like that. I wanted to make beautiful, puffy, light meringues, but instead I ended up with chewy hockey pucks. Not so good. Oh well, at least I had fun doing it. Following this video was the reason for my disaster. This is the record of my failed process.

Phantastic Phở

Last night I tired making one of my favourite Vietnamese dishes, Phở, which is essentially a spicy beef noodle soup. It's a dish that at its core has a very flavourful broth with many complex flavours, which proved fairly difficult to replicate. It takes a lot of time and love to create this stock, which carries the flavour for the whole dish. Unfortunately for me, I did not have too much time that I could invest in making an awesome soup from scratch, so I ended up following this 5 minute recipe. I also lacked a fair few of the key ingredients. Alas, I did not let this be a stumbling block for me, I improvised! This is how I made my quick and easy Phở.

Grilled 'Egg In The Basket' Sandwich

This recipe was a bit of an experimental one. I was influenced by this scene in 'V for Vendetta', where V is cooking an egg within a slice of bread (known as an 'egg in the basket'). I then saw this video which took it too the next level, by inserting a layer of cheese between the slices and thus, converting it into a grilled cheese sandwich. Stay tuned for more of this experimental wonder.

Succulent Salmon Steaks

After my sushi recipe turned out really good, I wanted to do another salmon based dish because salmon is so yummy! YouTube once again was my saviour and gave me this video, which lead on to finding this one too. I used bits and pieces from both recipes to create my own one, and the result was pretty excellent. Read on for more fishy goodness!

Coke Chicken with Agnolotti

Okay this one was made by me in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep : p so I decided to cook! This time I decided to do something reeeeally special and weird. So basically as you can see the title it's the mix of coke, chicken and agnolotti lol About why I put coke into it, well I just watched a video of this lady doing what they call Coca-cola chicken. Here is the link. It looks way better than mine. As for agnolotti, um... I don't know it's just that it has been in my fridge for like a week and I thought maybe it's time to put it into good use :) So here's the process of me cooking this chicken or agnolotti or whatever it is lol

Jucy Lucy Burger

No, that is not a spelling mistake. What is a Jucy Lucy then, you ask? Wikipedia's explanation is fairly comprehensive: a 'Jucy Lucy' is "a cheeseburger having the cheese inside the meat patty rather than on top... resulting in a molten core of cheese within the patty... that tends to gush out at first bite". I first saw the Jucy Lucy in this episode of Food Wars and I knew it was something that I just had to try. Let's get juicy... I mean, jucy!

Supposedly Simple Chicken Fettuccine?

I assumed a pasta meal with a few ingredients wouldn’t take long, but I was wrong. This is my recipe for creamy chicken fettuccine, made from ingredients you can generally find in the pantry.

Seriously Simple (yet satisfying) Steak

Red meat. We were made to eat it. There is nothing quite like chomping down on a sizzling steak, full of meaty goodness! Celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay shows us all how it's supposed to be done with this video, and boy that looks delicious. I didn't really follow his recipe completely, but I figured I couldn't really go wrong with steak, right? Here's to a journey of delicious proportions.

Super Sensational Sushi

Man, I love sushi. And when I say "I love sushi", I mean I REALLY love sushi. And when I say "I REALLY love sushi", I mean I REALLY REALLY -- okay you get the point. I'm not sure why I did not attempt this recipe sooner. It's simple, quick, fun and delicious, what more could you really ask for? The guy in this video makes sushi like a pro, and I used his technique for rolling up sushi. These bad boys turned out great, and were well worth the effort. Okay, enough talking, more sushi making. Go go go!

Experimental Apple Cider

One of my mates brews his own beer at home. A while back, he came up with the idea of trying out an apple cider for the first time. He had no real clue on how to make a cider as it is a fairly different process to brewing regular beer. After a bit of research and asking around, he had a vague idea of how he would be able to brew the cider. It was not a rock solid idea, and there was a lot of room for error, hence the title 'experimental' apple cider. Regardless, I did not want to miss out on this opportunity, so we got a couple of friends together and gave him a hand. It is possible to brew this concoction without big, speciality equipment if you follow this easy recipe video. Let me show you how we made our own homemade alcoholic apple cider!
